About Cobra

The Consolidated omnibus reconciliation act(Cobra) provides health benefit provisions to the people and it is established in 1986. Cobra contains provisions giving certain employees, retires and their spouses, dependent students the right to temporary continuation of health coverage at group rates. The law generally covers group health plans maintained by the employers with 20 or more employees in that prior year. It applies to plans those who are in private sectors and sponsored by the state or local government and it does not avail to plans sponsored by the federal and certain church related organizations. Medical benefits provided by Cobra include in patient and out patient hospital care, physician care, surgery and other major medical benefits, prescription drugs and any other medical benefits such as vision and dental care. Employees and the families who are covered by medical insurances prior to the loss of benefits are qualified to continue the benefits of cobra.
